Tooth removal is needed when a tooth becomes irreparable due to extensive infections. Likely, pulling a tooth out from its socket offers a viable solution to address irritations like unbearable pain trigged by tooth looseness. Now the question is, “Do you extract your teeth yourselves?”

No. You should not remove a loose or diseased tooth without dentist support. If you do, such practices will harm instead of benefitting your oral cavity. In this blog article, our dentists have explained it in detail. Keep reading.

Why you should not remove your teeth own?

In a dental office, teeth extraction is done with plier-like instruments called forceps and elevators. Such teeth removal utensils have come a long way from dental pelicans in the 14th century and was in practice for about 400 years. Later, dental key was used until the modern forceps were introduced in the 19th century.

Such hinged objects utilized for dental extraction ensure hassle-free teeth removal process.

In case of self-tooth extraction, certain people attempted to pull out a problematic tooth with risky practices like doorknob method. It involves connecting the defective tooth and door knob using a string. When the door is shut, it pulls away the tooth.

Is it right to weigh such risky actions with the meticulous procedures done by Professionals on the same scale?

Similarly, the utensils are fully sanitized before initiating the procedure in dental clinics. It ensures that the tooth extracted site does not contaminate so that bacterial invasion is prevented considerably. However, self-tooth extraction activities are devoid of such sanitary activities. It implies that the surgical region might be affected which is followed by various dental dilemmas.

Moreover, pulling a tooth yourself with a gadget you are having may damage the neighboring tissues and injure the underlying oral tissues.

What should you do when you have to pull a baby tooth?

Even though pulling your teeth with no dental support is a bad idea, you have to do it in some circumstances. Pulling a loose tooth of your kid when the permanent teeth start to erupt is one such situation.

As the milk tooth’s root starts to dissolve, the tooth becomes loose hence that the child would encounter pain in the tooth frequently. Moreover, the intensity of pain increases with the tooth’s increased wiggliness. In such cases, you will be left with no option except to pull the loose tooth yourselves.

Here are the tips to follow while pulling your kid’s milk teeth on your own:

  • Don’t try to extract the tooth on your own if it is a little loose.
  • If you notice that the tooth is just hanging on by a threat in its socket, then pull it.
  • Use a clean gauze, or paper towel to grab around the tooth and gently pull it until comes out from the socket. If you are vigorous in this process, it will hurt the oral tissues underneath.

If you prefer natural ways to mitigate the loose tooth pain until you visit your dental doctor, here are the tips you should consider:

  • Saltwater Rinse
  • Chew garlic
  • Chew cloves
  • Apply an icepack on side of your mouth where the loose and aching tooth is present.
  • Mouth rinse with peppermint tea

To conclude, you can pull your teeth out but you should not. It is not a wise decision to extract a tooth yourself as it hurts the surrounding tissues and neighboring teeth. Get a dental consultation when the pain in a loose tooth intensifies.
