It is really important to maintain good dental health.

Keeping your smile healthy not only prevents your mouth from oral problems but also improves your confidence and physical health.

Fortunately, this is simple to achieve with these nine following tips.

Follow the right brushing technique:

There is a proper brushing technique that has shown proven results.

  • Always use a toothbrush made of soft bristles
  • Hold your toothbrush at a 45° angle and start brushing from your gumline.
  • Brush your teeth on the inside, outside, and everywhere including your molars.
  • Never miss any part of your teeth.
  • Brush your tongue and gums gently.

Complete two minutes:

Always brushing your teeth for at least two minutes is highly advised. This effectively cleans your teeth and improves oral health. Consider using a timer or play your favorite song while brushing to enjoy two minutes completely.

Switch your toothbrush:

Switching your toothbrush after 3 to 4 months is very important. Also if you recovered from illness recently, you should change your toothbrush. Using the same toothbrush after getting recovered from illness may result in reinfection. Many electric and manual toothbrushes have color indicators to remind you to change your toothbrush. If you are a parent, changing your kid’s toothbrush will create excitement among them and encourages brushing.

The right flossing technique:

Giving importance to flossing similar to brushing is encouraged. Proper flossing techniques help eliminates food particles and bacteria stuck between your teeth and eliminates bad breath.

  • Take floss of about 18 inches.
  • Wrap it around your middle fingers and leave one or two inches on both sides
  • Hold it tightly between your index finger and thumbs.
  • Slide gently in between your teeth.
  • Floss gently below the gumline

Never cover:

Always clean your toothbrush by simply rinsing it off and allow them to dry in the air after brushing. Never cover your toothbrush or share it. Doing so will help bacteria to breed and spread quickly.

Choose the right toothbrush:

Nowadays, toothbrushes are available in different varieties. They are available with many options like manual, electric, handle type, bristle type, color, head size, etc. It is always recommended to choose a toothbrush that has soft bristles and a head with small to medium size.

Check for ADA seal:

Always choose a toothpaste that contains fluoride and ADA seal to eliminate plaque and prevent cavities.

Consider using a mouthwash:

Use a mouthwash after a meal to freshen your breath, prevents gum disease by eliminating plaques, and soothes dryness in the mouth. Include this in your oral hygiene routine to prevent oral problems.

Scrape your tongue:

Use a tongue scraper to eliminate additional oral bacteria. This can eliminate bad breath too. Buy a toothbrush that also contains a tongue scraper on the back of the head for extra convenience. Also, brush your teeth before going to bed to control the spread of bacteria.

Following these 9 tips enhances your oral hygiene from good to best. And the last thing to remember is to visit your dentist twice a year to stay away from all types of oral problems.
